GLBTQ Sukkot Dinner! Oct 3 at the National Synagogue

Please join us for a meal in our synagogue's communal sukkah on the second night of Sukkot, Saturday, October 3, 2009.
(6:30pm services, 7:30pm dinner)

Some of our Ohev Sholom members have told me that people in the Jewish GLBTQ community (like some other non-Orthodox Jews) feel particularly unwelcome in Orthodox synagogues. For this reason I want to especially welcome members of the GLBTQ community to one of our scheduled meals in the sukkah as I am committed to making our synagogue a welcoming place for all Jews to come and worship and participate in the spiritual life of our community.

The meal on the second night of Sukkot is also open to the entire Ohev community and guests….As an Open Orthodox community we recognize that our prayers are enhanced and not diminished by diversity amongst those worshipping.

Please help us in encouraging everyone you know, whether or not they are part of the GLBTQ community to join us for a festive meal in our sukkah.

In many ways Sukkot is a perfect time for a communal meal that brings together a heterogeneous community. The sukkah encourages us to leave our homes and go outside of our comfort zone while inviting new guests to share in the festival.

If you want to join us for the festive meal on Saturday, October 3, please email your reservation to cvaloris@gmail.com or call (202) 882-7225.

If you have any questions about the event, please contact Shira Frank at: shirabfrank@gmail.com .

($18 a person, kids under 12 eat free.)
